I am a mother, artist, producer, activist, educator, sister, aunt, friend, daughter and wife. My whole life I have done my best to be much more than a bystander, I have involved myself, defended, come to the aid of, called out, resisted and demanded. I pour much of my commentary, protest and celebration into the music I have composed over my career, and I also seek to advocate in other ways using the platform I have established. I am historically outspoken and I'm sure that has got me uninvited to plenty of places and I have absolutely not one regret.
My journey as a singer came by way of ballet and big bands. I was a student of ballet and lived in a music-filled house. I eventually abandoned my dancing dreams and turned to music as a last ditch effort to graduate from college with a degree in something that suited my interests and assets. Ultimately Berklee College of Music claimed my heart and I moved back to the State of my birth after being raised on the West Coast up until then.
After graduating and cutting my chops as a songwriter and session singer, I moved to NY in 1989 to seek my out my musical dreams!! I continued writing and producing, doing session work and live concerts and in 1992 I joined a vocal jazz group, New York Voices, signed with GRP Records and the rest is well.....still happening. Many group recordings, solo recordings, teaching, producing and touring years have been invested and harvested. I'm still a work in progress.
